1. What are the biggest interior design trends of 2021?

The interior design world has seen the emergence of several key trends in the run-up to 2021. Say hello to a delicate fusion of Japanese design with a Scandinavian touch, Japandi is the trend to watch this year. Using natural materials like bamboo, wood and stone and green colours to bring the outside in and appreciate the beauty in age and imperfection. Meanwhile Pantone’s Colour of 2021 is Illuminating and Ultimate Grey. This cheerful mix reminds us of brighter days and we hope to see a lot more sunshine yellow over the next 12 months. Finally, as more of us are working from home, creating multiple workspaces for families to balance home schooling and working will become a key focus this year. Think functional, space saving kids beds with a desk built-in, and smart desks with wireless charging and bluetooth speakers. 

2. What about Art Deco trend – is that still making a comeback?

Modern Art Deco brings together a luxurious hotel and the 50's diner look. Update this timeless trend with a touch of modern spirit by adding sleek furniture, matte finishes and a sprinkle of velvet. Invest in timeless yet contemporary pieces from brands like Bold Monkey, that you won't ever have to update.  Last year, Lagom (the Swedish word for ‘just-enough’) was popular, and this year, it looks like the Japandi trend might just knock others off the top spot. Think simplicity and organisation, this delicate fusion of Japanese and Scandanavian design elements brings together the best of both worlds and appreciating the beauty in age and imperfection.

3. What colours do I need to know about for 2021?

Brave Ground has emerged as one of most coveted colours. This warm, natural neutral is comforting, welcoming and just what we all need for the near year. Meanwhile Pantone named two colours as their shades of 2021: Illuminating and Ultimate Grey.  Described as Pantone as "a marriage of colour conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting" Other colours likely to be making their way into our homes this year include warm colours like navy and orange - and ocean blue hues to capture relaxing poolsides and beach getaways.   

4. How can I easily integrate these interior design trends into my home?

Regardless of the space and budget available, everyone should be able to able to find a way to integrate 2021 trends into their home. Take time to consider which of your rooms might already support a particular trend, meaning less work will be required. For example, if your living room has lots of dark wood furniture, adding a statement midnight blue rug or glass art deco-style light could simply accentuate your existing style. Meanwhile, if your room is very white and Scandinavian, some Sea Green chairs or houseplants in terracotta pots might work better.
